The word Word

John 1:14: And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

In the above passage, the Word is obviously Jesus. There are many passages in the New Testament in which the word word refers to something other than Jesus. The other meanings of the word word in the New Testament are an oral word, a written word, a taught word or a logical word. It would be an interesting study to learn when the Word means Jesus and when the word means something else. The other than Jesus words appear occasionally in the three other gospels and other books of the New Testament but every Word in the gospel of John and the epistle of 1 John is Jesus.

John 1:1: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

This passage speaks about the eternality of Jesus, that He was with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit for all eternity past, will be forever in the future, and that He was God and will always be God. He is God the Son and the Son of God. He was, is and will always be The Living Word.

John 1:3: All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

As God, Jesus created everything. If He was not God He could not have done that. He can only give to us physical life AND eternal life because life is in Him. None but God could do that.

John 10:17: Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. 18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

None but God could have the power to lay down His life and take it again.

John 1:12: But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

None but God could make us children of God. When we receive Jesus, we receive God, including all of His power and authority.

1 John 5:11: And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

Matthew 28:18: And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

None but God could have and wield all power. The vitally important truth that Jesus is God is where every cult and every false religion go astray.

Luke 19:11: And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear. 12 He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. 13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come. 14 But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.

While this passage is in a Parable, it is a Parable about Himself. The nobleman is a type of Himself. Cults and false religions hate Him and do not want His absolute power and authority over them. We desperately need Him to be God and we desperately need His absolute power. Do you love Him and desire His absolute power to be over you? I hope and pray that you do!!
